08/12/22 - Dr Lee Cameron - A Physiotherapists journey: Spinal injections service

Lee is a lead Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist working in Spinal Trauma & Orthopaedics at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Southeast Wales. As part of his role, he delivers fluoroscopy guided spinal injections along with peripheral injections. He completed his PhD at the University of Plymouth and continues to hold an honorary contract at the university to progress his research in the field of spinal orthopaedics. He has recently been elected secretary-elect for the National Spine Network (NSN).

 

15/12/22 - Luke Millward - Post injections: Joint infection vs pseudo sepsis

Luke is a MSK physiotherapist with a specialist interest in diagnostic and interventional ultrasound.  He works both privately and within a radiology setting in the NHS.  He holds a Masters degree in health science and is an independent prescriber.  Luke sits on the executive board of ACPOMIT and is passionate about raising the standards of diagnostic ultrasound imaging and ultrasound guised injections.  

 

19/01/23 Rob Mast - Hydrodistension for adhesive capsulitis & barbotage for calcific tendinopathy

Rob is a specialist MSK physiotherapist. He has worked in an advanced practice role for Homerton Health care NHS trust for over 20 years.

In the last 10 years he has been an integral part of the Homerton hospital radiology department as a diagnostic and interventional sonographer. In this role he has trained many radiology staff to become competent in MSK Ultrasound diagnostics and Ultrasound guided injections. He is also an independent prescriber of medicines.

He is owner and clinical director of Sonoscope Ltd www.sonoscope.co.uk and provides a range of Ultrasound guided interventions privately in Hertfordshire.

 He is a founding member  and tutor at  the Ultrasound site ( www.theultrasoundsite.co.uk)  which is one of the biggest providers of MSK Ultrasound education in the U.K.

He is an honorary lecturer at Brunel University at the PgCert program in MSK Ultrasound and at their   Ultrasound guided injection therapy program.

 

08/02/23 Paul Regan - Immunosuppressive effects of intra-articular & peri-articular corticosteroid injections. 

Paul is an Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Practitioner who works in the NHS in Salford.  He has been an injection therapist for over 10 years and an independent prescriber for over 6 years.  Paul completed an undergraduate degree in physiology at Manchester University before retraining as a physiotherapist and this has lead to an interest in aspects of musculoskeletal practice which overlap with areas of physiology, pharmacology and immunology.  This led to him publishing a review article on the potential immunosuppressive effects of corticosteroid injections in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic in conjunction with a consultant immunologist in 2021.  He has lectured nationally on the pharmacology of injection therapy and prescribing and teaches on postgraduate courses  in Advanced Clinical Practice and Injection Therapy at the University of Salford and Teesside University.

 

28/02/23 Dave Baker - Ultrasound guided injections in private physiotherapy practice

Dave Baker is owner and clinical director of 'Complete Injections'. Dave was one of the first physiotherapists to be fully trained MSK sonographer, injection therapist and independent prescriber. After 17 years working within NHS Dave now works in private practice and runs one of the largest physiotherapy-led private msk injection services in the UK. 

Dave is also honorary lecturer at Brunel University running post graduate courses in diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound guided injections.

 

21/03/2023 Suresh Sudula - Platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections

Suresh Sudula is a consultant Physiotherapist specialised in Musculoskeletal Medicine & MSK Ultrasound. Suresh has vast experience within the regenerative medicine, have performed over 5000 procedures including PRP, BMAC & MFAT.

Suresh is an honorary lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University, teaching an MSK Ultrasound PGCert programme and frequently teaches on national and international MSK ultrasound courses and musculoskeletal society conferences. Furthermore, Suresh is a programme director for MSK Medicine and offers MSK Ultrasound Fellowships to other clinicians who wish to expand their knowledge within this field.  

Suresh is the founder and director of Kent Musculoskeletal Clinic; a private clinic offering highly specialised ultrasound guided injection services. He also works as a Consultant Physiotherapist in Diagnostic and Interventional Musculoskeletal Ultrasound at Medway Maritime Hospital, Radiology department in Kent.

 

TBC - Neil Smith / Dave Annison  - The use of suprascapular nerve block injection for people with chronic shoulder pain within physiotherapy practice

Neil is an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist working at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. Neil has completed NIHR ICA clinical academic training and published articles on suprascapular nerve block injections. He is currently developing a feasibility study surrounding suprascapular nerve block injections in the management of chronic shoulder pain.  

Dave is an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist working at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the North East. He was awarded an NIHR Pre-Doctoral Integrated Clinical Academic Fellowship in 2021 which enabled him to explore the physical harms of Suprascapular nerve block injections, pulsed radiofrequency and ablation. 

 

 

11th July. 7.30pm - Nick Livadas  - A personalised approach to MSK injection therapy: Do we overestimate the benefits and underestimate the harms?

This webinar will explore the evidence base relating to common musculoskeletal injections in an attempt to share the reported benefits and risks. As personalised care becomes business as usual across health and care services, this webinar will review how we can adopt a personalised approach to MSK injection therapy.

Biography: Nick is an experienced advanced practice physiotherapist and clinical lead for two NHS community musculoskeletal services in the North East of England. He is a previous chair of ACPOMIT and tutor on the MSK Injection Therapy module at Teesside University. He is an ambassador for the Personalised Care Institute and chair of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy professional committee.
